Sarcoma is rare, and it is treated best at the centers that see it every day. Most of those centers are a plane ride away from the people who need them. Beat the Odds books the flight, the hotel nights, and the rides that close that distance.

What a trip costs
These are the real numbers behind one patient’s trip to a specialist center. They are what we budget against, not a menu.
$120 is what the airport, hotel, and treatment-center rides run on a typical trip.
$160 is one night's lodging near a specialist center for a patient and a companion.
$450 is a typical round-trip fare to put a patient in front of a sarcoma specialist.
These are the rates we budget when we book a trip. They are benchmarks, not price tags on a gift. Donations pool, and the fund spends them on the next patient who needs to travel.

Why the center matters
In a national study of 34,528 soft-tissue sarcoma patients, the people who traveled farthest to treatment had better survival, and the authors attributed that advantage to reaching academic and research centers rather than to the travel itself. Getting to the center is the thing that matters. The travel is only what it costs.
